The lawyers of the Ministry of Justice in their deposition described the Regional Court’s ruling as a “judicial overrun”
President Donald Trump’s government has asked the US Supreme Court on Friday to intervene in its efforts to allow the government’s efficiency service, led by Ilon Musk, unlimited access to the data of millions of US US Services.
As the Reutersthe Ministry of Justice asked the judges to suspend the federal judge who prevented the service from giving access to Doge, after finding that the data sharing agreement was likely to violate a federal privacy law.
The lawyers of the Ministry of Justice in their deposition described the court’s ruling as’overrun“
“The Regional Court is forcing the executive to prevent employees responsible for modernizing government information systems to access these systems, because, at the discretion of the court, these officials do not” need “such access”they wrote.
Doge has scanned federal services in the context of Trump’s effort and billionaire ally, Musk, to eliminate waste, reduce jobs and drastically reshape the federal government.
The administration’s request came after the lawsuit of two labor unions and a defense team. These organizations had filed a lawsuit to prevent DOGE members from accessing some of the most sensitive social security systems (SSA).
The Supreme Court ordered the plaintiffs to respond to the administration’s request until May 12.
US Regional Judge Helen Hollander of Maryland, appointed by the former Democratic President Barack Obamaissued a decree on April 17, extending the previous prohibition on access to the Doge members to the data. In her decision, she found that Doge had not explained why his declared mission required “Unfair, unlimited access to almost entire SSA data systems.”
“For about 90 years, SSA has been led by the fundamental principle of safeguarding privacy in its records,” Hollander wrote. “This case reveals a great crack in the foundations.”
The 4th US Court of Appeal based in Richmond, Virginia, in a divided decision On April 30, he refused to suspend Holder’s ban on Doge’s unlimited access to records.
