The Albanians have come to the polls today for parliamentary elections in which Prime Minister Edi Rama is claiming a fourth term, following a pre -election campaign dominated by the promise of joining the European Union and the accusations of corruption.

The constituencies were closed at 20.00, time in Greece. The results will be announced on Tuesday, the head of the Electoral Committee, Elijan Tselibasi, announced.

Participation by 14.00 (local time) was 30.34%.

Rama, the leader of the Socialist Party (PS) who has been ruling since 2013, is the favorite in these elections against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party (PD).

A sixth POL, of the Albanian Post news portal based in Tirana and TV station Klan Kosova TV, based in Kosovo, shows the PS leading 51.8% and Berisha’s PD followed by 38%. Based on these results, the two parties elect 79 and 54 MPs respectively.

Three television stations told Reuters that they decided not to broadcast six, citing procedural and legal issues.

Rama may, however, need the support of smaller parties to maintain a majority in parliament.

“Today the Albanian people (…) will give us the power we need to make Albania member of the EU,” Rama said after the end of the vote.

Berisha, who also supports Albania’s European ambitions and has promised to increase the moss and fight corruption, said that “this will be a new summer” for Albanians.

About 246,000 Albanians were eligible to vote for the first time in today’s parliamentary elections.

According to Exit Polls, Edi Rama is first with the second Sali Berisha, securing his fourth consecutive term in the Prime Ministerial Holb.

The Democratic Party (PD) is alleged to have asked the KEU not to announce the outcome of the electronic voting in North and at Unit 10 in Tirana, arguing that there may be a specific impression of victory. A KEU decision is expected, and sources say Celibashi Commissioner may decide to announce the results of the electronic vote shortly after counting some Tirana molds.

Arrests for voting photography

The number of those arrested for photographing the vote amounted to seven. After the first case of a 56 -year -old in Elbasan, and then another 56 -year -old woman, police announced that he had arrested two more people, a 57 -year -old and a 28 -year -old.

Another 34 -year -old man, a former police officer. In Argyrokastro, special structures for investigating electoral crimes arrested a 30 -year -old man, as there is suspicion that he has photographed the ballot paper. Meanwhile, a 43 -year -old man was arrested in the librazd for photographing the vote, and his cellphone was seized.

The method of photographing the vote is proof that the person who sold his vote actually voted for the one who bought it.
