Defense Minister Pitt Hegschez ordered the Navy’s minister to rename the USNS Harvey Milk oil tanker, according to a senior Pentagon official.

The ship, which was dumped in 2021 and named the activist’s name in favor of the rights of the LOATKI and veteran Navy Harvey Mill, who, as CNN reports, had been forced into resignation by the army due to his sexual orientation.

The new name is not yet known, but the time is remarkable as June is the month

The US network reports that the renaming of a military ship is rare and has never been ordered by the Minister of Defense in recent years.

The last time he was renamed a ship was in 2023, following a setting up a Committee of Congress for the revision of military names. Following this study, the Navy decided to rename the USS Chancellorsville cruiser and the USNS Maury research ship.

USNS Harvey Milk is part of the John Lewis tanker class, which bear the names of the leadership forms of the political rights. Other ships of the same class are USNS Earl Warren, USns Robert F. Kennedy, USNS Lucy Stone and USNS Sojourner Truth.

The decision is part of Pitt Hegshee’s attempt to restore the “warrior culture” to the Armed Forces – a strategy that is mainly implemented by the abolition of programs for diversity, equality and integration (dei) throughout the Ministry of Defense, as well as with the efforts to reinstate them.
