The UN Department for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) will soon open an office in Ankara, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his statements by the Turkish capital.

The Turkish leader also called on Muslim countries to increase their support for the service, stressing the need to strengthen international humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population.

Erdogan’s statement is in the wake of UNRWA’s prohibition in Israel in 2024, following allegations that many of her executives were involved with Hamas and allegedly participated in the long -standing attack on October 7, 2023 on Israeli territory. Israel described UNRWA as a “co -worker of terrorism”, sparking strong reactions internationally.

Turkey has strongly condemned both the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip and the ban on UNRWA, referring to a serious violation of international law and an attempt to worsen the already dramatic humanitarian crisis in the region. “The situation in Gaza is unmoved. Millions of people have been displaced. Support for UNRWA is an obligation for the whole Muslim world, “Erdogan said.
