About twenty women, members of the opposition party of the “reformers”, demonstrated today with their underwear outside the party’s headquarters, demanding the liberation of their leader, Saxes Masra, who has been in custody since May 16 as a suspect for “motion”.
“Release Masra, why do you keep him?” The women were shouting. Some cried, others, kneeling, prayed to God.
The demonstration was broadcast from the official party’s Facebook page. It lasted less than an hour and dissolved without incidents.
In Chad, such demonstrations have happened in the past in non -Muslim circles.
The Saxas Masra comes from the southern Chad and belongs to the Ngabayye ethnicity. It is very popular with the Christians and the animists of the South, who believe that their rights are being trampled on by the Muslim government of the downside.
Masra was accused of “incitement to hatred, incitement to rebellion, establishment and synergy in armed gangs, co -conspiracy in murders, arson and cemetery”. Four days ago he announced that he was conducting a hunger strike.
“Masra is in danger, we consider the authorities responsible for this situation,” said party secretary-general Dr. Toga-Jayum Ngorngar. As he said, for four days, Saxon Masra “refuses to eat, drink and take his medicines.”
Francis Kantzilebayay, the coordinator of the Masra defender, said he considers his detention “arbitrary”.
Chad’s judicial authorities accuse Masra of causing a massacre on May 14 in Mandakao, in the western logon region, where 42 people, mainly women and children were killed.
