A serious blow to the efforts of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to rebuild the government of the Socialist Party (PSOE), following corruption scandals that threaten the cohesion of his government, the resignation of a senior party leader.

Sanchez hoped that the PSOE federal committee meeting last weekend would serve as a re -launching point after weeks of crisis, which have seriously affected the party’s profile.

However, his expectations were denied late on Friday night, when online medium Eldiario.es published complaints of party workers over incidents of sexual harassment by Francisco Salathar, head of the Munich Mansion.

Salathhar announced his retirement on Saturday both from his post and the new role of PSOE’s Deputy Organizing Secretary.

Speaking to Eldiario, he denied any category, even commenting that … “breaks his head” but he cannot remember something that justifies such complaints.

“I wonder if I said something inappropriate, but I find nothing,” he said.

Government sources have confirmed that an internal investigation has begun, although no official complaints have been filed so far.

Pedro Sanchez, in his new statements on Saturday, apologized for his mistake to show confidence in persons who – as he said – did not deserve it.

“I was mistaken for trusting people who did not deserve it, but we would not retreat from the goal of democratic renewal,” he said.

Responding to pressures for early elections, Sanchez made it clear that he did not intend to resign.

“The captain does not leave the steering wheel when the sea is wild. He stays there to drive the ship to the port, “he said.

It is worth noting that the resignation of Salathhar comes a few days after the arrest of the close associate of the Prime Minister and former PSOE Organizing Secretary Santos, who was detained following evidence of involvement in a bribery case related to public works.

The case came to light after the disclosure of material that records a target of the former Transport Minister Jose Luis Avalos, and his associate, Collo Garcia, who are also investigated.

The target of investigations are also the wife and brother of the prime minister, who refuse any involvement.

At the same time, a former PSOE executive is allegedly involved in an attempt to slander the Guardia Civil Organization who is investigating the cases.

“He has no credibility. His alleged struggle against corruption and sexism is pure spectacle, “PP sources said, namely the People’s Party, which is the opposition in the country.

Based on the landscape formed, internal pressures for early elections appear to be starting to emerge within the PSOE.
