The Americans in Russia are at risk of arbitrarily arrested from the authorities, warned yesterday Tuesday the State Departmentrepeating his urging to them US citizens not to travel to this country or, if they are there, to leave immediately.
The US State Department has warned of “the possibility of expelling American citizens” by Russian security services, “including their arrest” and “arbitrary enforcement of Russian law” because of the Washington location for Russian invasion of Ukraine and sanctions imposed on Moscow.
This warning was issued while the Famous American basketball player Britney Greiner has been detained in Russia for more than a month.
He was arrested on February 17 at an airport near Moscow with “electronic cigarette and vial of liquid that had a special smell” of cannabis oil, according to the Russian customs service.
Mrs. Greiner, one of the best basketball players in the world, she faces up to ten years in prison. He was taken to a detention center from where – by a decision of a Russian court – he can not leave before May 19 at the earliest.
The arrest of the holder of two Olympic medals, who does not hide that she is gay, was not disclosed to the public until March 5, fifteen days later. Meanwhile, the Russian armed forces had invaded Ukraine, sparking a major international crisis and heavy US sanctions on Moscow.
Washington fears that Mrs. Greiner will turn into a pawnin a pressure tool, in the midst of a collision, and prefers to keep a low profile in this case for the time being.
An employee of the US Embassy in Moscow was able to visit Britney Greiner, 31, for the first time on March 23. She found that she was “in good health”.
