Preparations for the delivery of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine are in full swing, the NATO allied commander in Europe confirmed, while warning that Russia is and will remain a threat to the alliance, even if it is found.

NATO Europe’s top allied commander, General Alexis Grinkevic, added that the orders he has received were to surrender the Patriots to Ukraine as soon as possible.

“I am not going to reveal to the Russians or anyone else the exact number of weapons we carry or when it will be done, but I will say that preparations are in progress,” he said, adding:

“We work very closely with the Germans to carry the Patriot and the instructions given to me is to move as quickly as possible. And that’s what we do. In addition, we also look at other opportunities and what needs are and are working to submit proposals to our political leadership. “

He stressed that Patriot systems already in Europe can be transported quickly to Ukraine and later replenished with US markets.

“Air defense is important on the modern battlefield and we have seen the scale of recent Russian attacks on Ukraine, so it is an area we need to focus on,” he said.

Greenkevic, a former fighter pilot who took over the top allied position in Europe earlier this month, also warned that even if there was a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine, Russia will remain a threat.

“The war insists on being on our doorstep in Ukraine. Although we seek a peaceful resolution, even if this comes, the Russian potential there will be reconstituted and simply their existence will be something we need to take into account militarily and understand how they threaten the alliance and freedoms we consider valuable. Russia is undoubtedly, in my opinion, will remain a constant threat, “he said.
