London, Yiannis Chianotakis,

The United Kingdom is further intensifying pressure on Russia by announcing a new package of sanctions targeting the country’s energy sector and the so -called “shadow fleet” tankers used by the Kremlin to transport oil.

A total of 137 new targets were added to the list of sanctions, “causing a blow to Russia’s revenue from oil exports” – revenue that the British government points out funding the illegal war in Ukraine.

The main pillar of sanctions is the targeting of 135 tankers, which have allegedly transferred illegal loads of $ 24 billion since early 2024. New sanctions also hit companies that facilitate the operation of this “shadow fleet”.

British Foreign Minister David Lami said: “New sanctions will continue to weaken Putin’s shadow fleet and deprive him of critical oil revenue. As long as Putin continues to avoid serious peace negotiations, we will not stay with our hands crossed. We will fully utilize the sanctions regime to step up financial pressure and stand on the side of Ukraine. “

London points out that the security of the United Kingdom is a top priority and the weakening of the Russian war machine is an integral part of the government’s “plan to change”.

Western sanctions have already led to a decline in Russian oil and gas revenue for the third consecutive year since 2022 – with total losses exceeding one -third of their original value. At the same time, inflation increases and defense and security costs are launched.
