The German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz had a new telephone conversation with the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged the Israeli leader to do everything he can to mitigate the scary humanitarian situation in Gauze.
“The Chancellor expressed his deep concern about the devastating humanitarian situation in Gaza. He called on the Prime Minister Netanyahu to do everything he can to achieve a truce, “said government spokesman Stefan Cornelius.
“The measures announced by the Israeli government must now be followed quickly by substantial further steps,” a statement issued by Berlin said.
The German government plans to decide in the coming days in coordination with France and Britain and other European partners but also the US and Arab states, how it can help improve the situation.
Cornelius reiterated that the recognition of Palestine is not currently on the German government’s agenda. The German government continues to perceive it as one of the final steps towards reaching a two -state solution.
