Cambodia will propose US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Cambodian government vice president said today following his immediate intervention that led to the end of the recent border conflict with the country.

Answering a question via a text message if he confirms Cambodia’s plan to propose Trump for the award, Chadol said “yes”.

Speaking to reporters earlier in the capital of Pnom Penh, Chadol thanked Trump for bringing peace and said he was worth proposing for the prize, the highest prestigious international award given to a person or an organization that has been done to “make it more”.

Pakistan said in June that he would propose Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize about the work he did by helping to resolve a conflict with India, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that he was proposing Trump.

A Trump phone call last week brought the impasse to attempts to put an end to the fastest conflict between Thailand and Cambodia for over a decade, leading to a ceasefire of negotiations in Malaysia on Monday, July 28th.

Following the announcement of the truce, White House spokesman Caroline Livit wrote in a post on the X platform that it was Trump who made her happen.

“Give him the Nobel Peace Prize,” he said.

At least 43 people were killed in fierce clashes – which lasted five days and caused the displacement of at least 300,000 people on both sides of the border.

“We recognize his great efforts for peace,” said Chadol, who is also the head of the Cambodian negotiating team for trade, adding that his country is also grateful for a reduced duty of 19%.

Washington had initially threatened with 49%duties, later reduced to 36%, a level that would decorate the Cambodian clothing and footwear sector, Chadol said in an interview earlier today at Reuters.
