The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued personal attacks against his Anthony Albanesiconsidering that his Australian counterpart’s political legacy has been forever tarnished after Kamrara’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state.
Diplomatic relations between Australia and Israel are tense after the Albanesi government announced last week that it will recognize a Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly in September.
The decision prompted Netanyahu to launch a personal attack on his Australian counterpart, while continuing criticism in an interview that is to be broadcast by the Sky News Australia television network.
“I believe that his legacy has forever been tarnished by the weakness he has shown in front of these terrorist monsters of Hamas,” the Israeli prime minister complained to the interview, since earlier this week he had described Albanesi as “a weak politician”.
Sky News Australia has published these statements ahead of the broadcast of Netanyahu’s interview today at 20:00 (local time, 13:00 Greek time).
Albanesi tried to throw in the tones yesterday, Wednesday, noting that “I do not take these things personally” and stressing that he is facing leaders of other countries with respect.
Last week, the Australian prime minister estimated that Netanyahu was “refused” about the devastating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, where the UN warns that there is a risk of extensive famine.
Meanwhile, the Australian Jewish Executive Council, in separate letters sent yesterday, Wednesday, to both leaders, invited them to resolve their differences through diplomacy and not through public controversy.
“We write to express our deep concern and fear after the recent ‘War War’,” the letters said.
“If things need to be said in public, they should be said in a measurable and decent way as it is for the leaders of a state. Australia and Israel are mature democracies and their governments must act respectively, ”the letters said.
Israel recalled earlier this week the entry of Australian diplomats accredited to the Palestinian Authority, after the Australian government canceled the visa of Israeli far -right MP belonging to Netanyahu’s government coalition.
MP Simha Rothman was to visit Sydney and Melbourne later in August at the invitation of a local Jewish conservative organization.
In June, the Albanesi government, along with the governments of other four countries, imposed sanctions on Israeli finance minister and head of the Religious Zionism Party Bezalel Smotric and also to the far-right Minister of Homeland.
