The UK’s departure from the European Union (Brexit) Niggel He presented today his plans for “mass deportations” of immigrants who cross the Channel with small boats if his party, the far -right Reform UK, forms the next British government.
In an interview on Saturday’s newspaper edition The TimesFarage said he would withdraw Britain from the European Convention on Human Rights and sign agreements with Afghanistan, Eritrea and other countries from which the largest number of immigrants arrive in the country to repatriate irregular migrants.
“We can be good with people. We can be good with other countries, or we can be very tough with other countries … I mean (US President Donald) Trump has proven this point quite a bit,” Faraj said.
Answering a question if he is worried that asylum seekers are murdered or tortured if they are sent to countries with low human rights respect, Farage said he was more concerned about the threat that asylum seekers are constituted for the British.
“I can’t be responsible for tyrannical regimes around the world. But I can be responsible for the safety of women and girls on our streets,” he said.
In recent weeks, small -scale demonstrations have often been held in Britain outside hotels that house asylum seekers, which are partially pushed by public security concerns after charges of sexual assault have been filed against some immigrants.
Polls show that immigration and asylum are the issues that are most concerned about public opinion, followed by the economy, while the reform UK-which secured five seats in the parliamentary elections held last year-comes first in recent investigations.
Last year 37,000 people -mainly from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Vietnam and Eritrea– They arrived in Britain from France, crossing the Channel with small boats. The total number was higher by a quarter than 2023 and was equivalent to 9% of net migration.
About two -thirds of people arriving by small boats and asylum seeks it and only 3% have been deported, according to data analyzed by the University of Oxford.
Farage told the Times that he would put an end to the right to submit an asylum or dispute of deportation for those who arrived by small boats replacing existing human rights legislation and choosing not to participate in refugee conditions, citing a national state of emergency.
“The purpose of this legislation is mass deportations,” Farage said, adding that a “mass crisis” caused by asylum seekers triggers the anger of public opinion.
The Times said Faraj wants to build detention facilities for 24,000 migrants at a cost of 2.5 billion pounds (US $ 3.4 billion) and five deportation flights daily with the total number of deportations reaching hundreds of thousands.
If this does not succeed, asylum seekers will be held on the Ascension Island, a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic, to send a symbolic message, the far -right leader said.
