From tomorrow, the President of the European Commission, Mr Ursula von der Layen, will go to Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Romania.
Its visit will underline the support of the European Union (EU) to Member States facing challenges due to their common borders with Russia or Belarus.
It will also discuss Europe’s security and defense with government leaders and military officials.
Tomorrow, August 29, President von der Laien will go to Riga, where he will meet with Latvia Prime Minister Evika Siliņa. They will visit an installation of unmanned aircraft, which has been supported by the EU through the Nextgenerationeu.
Later in the day, the President will go to Helsinki, where he will meet with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The president and the prime minister will be informed about Europe’s reaction to Russia’s shadow fleet and threats from war attacks aimed at critical underwater infrastructures, such as telecommunications and energy cables and energy pipelines. President von der Laien will take part in a work dinner organized by Finland President Alexander Stubb.
On Saturday, August 30, the president will be in Estonia, where he will meet with Prime Minister Kristen Michal. The President will exchange views with members of the Estonian Armed Forces and NATO’s military personnel.
On Sunday, August 31st, President von Der Laien will visit Poland, where he will meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. They will travel together on the border with Belarus to see closely the monitoring and preservation businesses of the eastern border.
Later in the day, the President will go to Sofia, where he will meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov. They will visit a leading state -run defense industry factory that is the largest equipment production unit in the country.
On Monday, September 1, President von Der Laien will be in Vilnius, where he will meet with Lithuania President Gitanas NausÄ—da. They will visit the country’s border with Belarus together. The two presidents will also attend the preparations for the treatment of hybrid and conventional threats.
In the afternoon, the President will go to Romania, where he will meet with President Nicușor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. They will travel together on the border with Ukraine. President von Der Laen will discuss the EU-NATO cooperation, as well as the prevention, identification, treatment and preventing marine and hybrid threats.
