The Reuters telegram about Dendia’s visit to Odessa

The humanitarian aid delivered in person by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias today at Odessa but also the missile attack in the city at dawn, points out a telegram from the agency Reuters.

The telegram in detail:

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias went to Odessa on Sunday as head of a humanitarian mission in the southern port city of Ukraine, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The humanitarian aid was delivered to the municipal authority of the city.

Among the goals of the 62-year-old Dendias’s trip are the creation of a permanent mechanism for the distribution of humanitarian aid from Greece and the reopening of the country’s consulate general in the city.

“The reopening of the (Greek) consulate will help in the distribution of humanitarian aid and the creation of corridors for the expulsion of expatriates from the Greek community from any part of Ukraine, if necessary through Odessa,” the minister said upon arrival in Odessa, according to the announcement of the Greek Foreign Minister.

Rockets hit Odessa in the early hours of Sunday, as the city council announced via the internet.

Dendias said last month that he planned to lead a humanitarian mission to the besieged city of Mariupol in Ukraine, home to hundreds of Greek expatriates, but heavy fighting in the area changed the destination of his trip and eventually led to Odessa.

At least 10 Greek expatriates have died and several have been injured since the start of the Russian attacks in Mariupol. More than 150 Greek citizens, ship crews and Greek nationals have left the area, according to Greek authorities.

Ukrainian troops have recaptured more than 30 towns and villages around Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said on Saturday, claiming full control of the capital for the first time since the Russian-led invasion.

Russia presents the withdrawal of its forces around Kyiv as a move of goodwill in the context of peace talks. Ukraine and its allies say Russia has been forced to turn its attention to eastern Ukraine after suffering heavy losses.
