The Kremlin said on Sunday that it was “impossible” to isolate Russia in the modern world, despite the country being targeted by Western sanctions for its unprecedented military invasion of Ukraine.
“There can be no isolation of Russia, it is technologically impossible in the modern world,” said Dmitry Peshkov, a spokesman for the Russian presidency, in an interview with Russia’s state-run Channel One, which was broadcast by Russian news agencies.
“Russia is bigger (in size) than Europe,” he added.
Western sanctions against Russia have not stopped multiplying since the Kremlin launched what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24.
“But sooner or later we will have to have a dialogue, whether they want it across the Atlantic or not,” Peskov said.
He also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin “never refused to meet” with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to find a solution and end hostilities in Ukraine.
“Supposedly, such a meeting remains possible,” Peskov added, but insisted that the Russian and Ukrainian delegations to the peace talks should have reached a “concrete” agreement beforehand, which would allow normalization of relations between the two countries. .
“Not some ideas, but a written, specific text,” he repeated.
The Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky decided earlier on Sunday that it is too early for a meeting to be organized. Putin and Zelensky.
