In a dramatic game, with a total of 20 minutes of added time in the sum of the two halves, Fortaleza beat Sport 1-0, at Arena Castelão, this Sunday (3), and won the 2022 Northeast Cup undefeated.

The title goal came in extra time of the initial stage, in a penalty committed by Thyere on Moisés and converted by Yago Pikachu.

In the complementary stage, the referee even awarded a maximum penalty for Sport, but the bid was revised, and the marking was annulled with the help of the video assistant (VAR).

In the 35th minute of the second half, Sport had a numerical advantage on the field after the expulsion of forward Robson, from Fortaleza, for elbowing Thyere in the face.

The match gained even more emotion due to a blackout of the spotlights, a goal disallowed by Sport, for lack of attack, and a confusion on the edge of the field, all this in the final part of the duel.

Pushed by the crowd, Fortaleza managed to hold back the pressure and finally let out the champion’s cry after the final whistle, at 58 minutes into the second half.

The teams had drawn 1-1 in the first game of the decision, played on Thursday (31), at Arena Pernambuco, with goals from Zé Welison and Bill.

With the triumph, Fortaleza’s campaign in this edition of the Copa do Nordeste ends undefeated, with seven wins and five draws. The Ceará tricolor had already won the regional tournament once, in 2019.
