Another attempt to evacuate the civilians in the martyred Mariupol seems to fall into the void while the eyes of the international community are on Bouka.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy to evacuate civilians bound for the besieged city has been forced to return and leave Russian forces, Ukrainian Vice President Irina Verestsuk has officially announced.
The convoy of seven buses was escorted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and held Monday in Manchus, a Russian-controlled town west of Mariupol, Verestsuk said.
“Despite the promises of their leadership, the (Russian) occupying forces do not allow anyone to go to Mariupol,” Verestsuk told the Telegram.
“The occupiers blocked the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Manhush. “They were released last night after negotiations and sent to Zaporizhia,” he added.
The ICRC delegation began its journey from Zaporizhia to Mariupol last Saturday, a spokeswoman told CNN.
The Vice President of Ukraine said that overall seven humanitarian corridors are scheduled for Tuesday around Ukraine and that an escort of seven buses was en route from Manhush to nearby Berdyansk, accompanied by the Red Cross.
Mariupol, which has been under siege since the early days of the Russian invasion on February 24, has been Moscow’s main target in Ukraine’s southeastern Donbass region. Tens of thousands of civilians are trapped there with minimal access to food and water, with the situation getting worse by the day.
