US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that one “wealthy private donor” has provided $130 million to the US government to cover potential military pay shortfalls caused by the ongoing government shutdown.

Speaking at a White House event, Trump praised the wealthy donor as “patriot and friend”but declined to name him.

“He called us and said, ‘I’d like to contribute to whatever deficit you have because of the Democrats’ shutdown … because I love the military and I love the country.'”Trump said.

As Reuters notes, the government is facing mounting pressure to ensure that active-duty members of the armed forces receive their salaries despite the budget impasse. Trump previously signed an executive order directing the Pentagon to reuse unused research funds to cover salaries.

The President of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnsoncalled the change in military funding a temporary fix and warned that troops could soon lose their paychecks if Congress doesn’t pass a budget resolution.

The US federal government has been partially shut down since October 1 as debate in Congress has led to an impasse over a new budget, with disagreements over sector subsidies of health care to be at the center of the impasse.
