US President Donald Trump said Hamas must “immediately” begin handing over the bodies of the hostages to Israel or face consequences.
As summarized by the “Times of Israel”, so far, Hamas has handed over the bodies of 15 dead hostages, while 13 more remain in the Gaza Strip. He claims that he cannot recover all the bodies and that he does not know where some of them may even be, but Israeli officials dispute these claims.
“We have unshakable peace in the Middle East, and I believe it has a good chance of lasting,” Trump wrote on the platform, “Truth Social.”
“Hamas must begin returning the bodies of the dead hostages, including two Americans, immediately, or the other countries participating in this broad peace will react. Some bodies are difficult to reach, but others can be returned now and, for some reason, they are not returned,” the American president added.
He estimated that all of this might be related to the disarmament of the members of Hamas, however he emphasized that the agreement requires “the full observance of obligations by both sides”.
“Let’s see what they do in the next 48 hours. I am monitoring the situation very closely,” he concluded.
