“The referendum to ratify the reform of the judicial system, approved today by the parliament, will not have a political character, it will only concern justice,” Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said tonight on Rai public television.

“In any case, there will be no consequences for the government, because we will ask to be judged by the citizens, at the end of the five years, for our overall work,” added the head of the Rome government.

According to Meloni “governments change, but the laws that are an integral part of the Constitution remain and affect the lives of citizens”. Which means that “those who believe that justice works perfectly will vote no in the referendum, while those who believe it can be improved will vote yes”.

The Italian Prime Minister also emphasized that despite the negative decision of the Italian Court of Auditors, the goal of her government is to continue the construction of the bridge that will unite Sicily with mainland Italy because “it is a project of a strategic nature, unique in its kind, at the global level”.

“We are the inheritors of a culture that caused admiration around the world, with its bridges. I cannot accept that today we cannot do it, because we are suffocated by bureaucracy,” said the president of the “Brothers of Italy” and prime minister of the country.

In her interview on Rai TV, Georgia Meloni confirmed that banks and insurance companies will be asked to contribute around 4.5 billion euros to the public budget. He emphasized, finally, that the increase in the tax scale for part of the short-term leases of properties, aims to be able to have more houses for rent, for Italian families.

It is noted that according to the Italian Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, the referendum on the ratification or rejection of the reform of the judicial system is to be organized, probably, in March or April 2026.
