Russia bans Australian, New Zealand prime ministers from entering country

Moscow announced today imposing sanctions on the leaders of Australia and New Zealandto which it prohibits entry into Russia, responding to similar measures taken by these countries after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In two statements, the Foreign Ministry accused the two countries of “hostile actions” against Russia.

The list of persons subject to sanctions is included Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Ardenas well as many members of their governments and MPs from both countries.

Overall, the ban concerns 228 Australian and 130 New Zealand politicians.

Moscow has condemned Australia’s “foolish Russophobic outburst” which has “meekly followed” other Western countries, he said. He also warned that “in the near future” other names will be added to this “black list”, such as the military, businessmen and journalists who “contribute to inciting a negative attitude towards our country,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
