Russia: Protests for sale of Turkish drones in Ukraine

by

Russia protests Russia’s sale of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Ukraine Bayraktar TB2as mentioned by a high-ranking Turkish official, noting, however, that these sales are made by a private Turkish company and this is not a transnational agreement.

“The Russians are upset and at times complain about the sale of drones. “They protested and continue to protest even now,” the official said, speaking to foreign media. “But we have already given the answer … that these are private companies and also these sales were made before the war,” he added.

Turkish defense technology company Baykar sold the drones to Kyiv, despite Russian objections, and before the war broke out, it signed an agreement with Ukraine to co-produce them, angering Moscow.

Following the Russian-Ukrainian peace talks in Istanbul last week, Kyiv released a list of possible “guarantor” countries, including Turkey and members of the UN Security Council.

The Turkish official said some of these countries could address “legal issues” as guarantors of Ukraine’s security, without giving further details.

Turkey has stated that, in principle, it is ready to take on the role of guarantor force for Ukraine’s security, but the details of this agreement will have to be finalized.
