The alleged perpetrator of the subway attack in Brooklyn has been arrested, according to statements by the New York police authorities to the Associated Press.
Frank James, 62, was taken into custody in Manhattan, the official said.
“My fellow New Yorkers, we caught him!”, Announced the mayor of the American metropolis Eric Adams in a press conference. “We will protect the people of this city and arrest those who believe they can spread terror to New Yorkers,” he said.

Frank James, who was arrested in the East Village area of Manhattan, was reportedly recognized by passers-by who posted photos of him on social media, which were used by the police to reach his tracks.
It is recalled that ten people were injured when the perpetrator of the attack opened fire inside the train.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate the 62-year-old African-American man, who is accused of throwing smoke into a subway train and shooting 10 passengers. Another 13 people were injured when they tried to leave the wagon in which panic prevailed.
The attack took place as New York City is facing an escalation of crime. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of cases of armed violence in New York increased from 260 to 296 compared to the same period in 2021, according to data from the New York Police Department published last week.

In the footage from a CCTV camera, the 62-year-old suspect is pictured wearing an orange reflective vest and a hard-brimmed hat as he walks through the subway station’s turnstiles.
He is then pictured standing next to a black luggage on wheels.
Photographs of the 62-year-old were also released by the New York police.

As evidenced by the image, the perpetrator started the attack inside the train, which was in motion.
The perpetrator threw smoke into the wagon and immediately started firing, injuring at least 16 passengers, five of them seriously.

The timeline of the attack
New York police were alerted after shots were fired in Brooklyn on Tuesday. At least 16 people have been injured, according to US authorities.
According to police sources in New York, the suspect threw smoke in the subway station and immediately afterwards pulled out a gun and started firing indiscriminately, injuring many citizens who were waiting for the train on the platform at that time. Earlier reports said explosive devices were not detonated and were found at the scene.
Pictures from the Brooklyn subway station show people in blood, while several ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene.

The suspect was reportedly wearing an asphyxiating mask, dressed in black, wearing an orange vest and carrying a toolbox.
The incident took place at the metro station at the junction of 4th Avenue and 36th Street Station.
