During the week from November 10 to 16, nationwide coronavirus cases increased by 32.2%, according to a report by the Gimbe Scientific Foundation. At the same time, admissions to ICUs increased by 14.3% and to hospital wards by 15.5%.
The regions with the highest prevalence of the virus are those of Trieste, Bolzano, Gorizia, La Spezia and Padua, all in northern Italy.
Meanwhile, Italian doctors warn that new measures must be taken to prevent a further increase in cases. Otherwise, they predict that within a month at most, the country’s ICUs will be under great pressure again.
At the same time, epidemiology professor Pier Luigi Lopalko is already urging Italians to avoid inviting unvaccinated people to their homes for the Christmas holidays to prevent the spread of the disease. Because, as is well known, indoors there is a greater chance of transmitting the virus.
As of today, in Sicily, it has been decided that citizens should resume wearing a protective mask in open spaces when there is congestion. After Rome, the digital platform for vaccination appointments was opened in Milan with the aim of administering the third dose of vaccine. The response of the citizens, in these first hours, was very encouraging.
Italian Deputy Health Minister Pierpaolo Sileri finally told Radio Cusano that if cases continue to rise and some areas turn from white to yellow and then orange, then the government of Rome can, indeed, consider only possibly unvaccinated citizens.
