An elderly man living in a nursing home in Shanghai was mistakenly transported to the morgue while still alive, according to state media, as the city’s Covid-19 outbreak and prolonged lockdown reach the care of the elderly and the health system at a critical juncture.
The government confirmed the incident and said an investigation had been launched. The nursing home, on the other hand, apologized, as the mistake has caused a wave of outrage among citizens, according to social media.
Four people were fired after the incident, including the director of the nursing home.
“This is a murder,” a Weibo user wrote in a series of other angry posts. “The crisis of confidence in the city is getting very bad.”
This is the video everyone’s talking about today, showing how a Shanghai nursing home resident is taken away to the morgue in a body bag. At around 38 sec in the video, the staff member backs away and says: “He’s alive. He’s alive, I saw it. Don’t cover him anymore.” pic.twitter.com/Y3HzRRpxUl
