South Korean health officials said Monday that as of midnight Sunday, 2,827 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed and 24 patients had died from complications of COVID-19.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the Asian country has so far reached 3,298 deaths out of a total of 418,252 infections. The mortality rate remains at 0.79%.

Infections decreased compared to the previous one (3,120), but this is mainly due to the fact that fewer tests were performed. They fell below the 3,000 mark for the first time in six days.

The country has been facing an increase in infections in recent days as restrictive measures eased, following the government’s decision to “live with the virus”.

Hospitals treat 515 patients with COVID-19 in severe to critical condition (-2 in 24 hours). Health authorities say they can treat around 500 patients in serious condition.

Since the mass immunization campaign began on February 26, 42.23 million people (82.3% of the population) have received the first dose of vaccine, of which 40.49 million (78.9%) have been fully vaccinated, according to with data from the Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). According to the same source, more than 1.8 million citizens have received commemorative doses.
