Biden considers Finland, Sweden members of NATO: They have exercised their sovereign right to security

“The two independent countries exercised their sovereign right to ensure their security,” Biden added, considering their NATO membership a given.

“Finland and Sweden are already among our partners and their troops are conducting joint operations with NATO in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said, adding: “Today there is no question. “NATO is more effective and more useful than ever.”

The US President also said that he asked the members of the Parliament to vote as soon as possible for the necessary approval for the accession of the two countries to the Alliance, in order to complete the procedures and to proceed with the completion of the plan.

“We have always been strong allies with Turkey,” said the Finnish president.

The President of Finland stated that his country has become a strong ally in NATO and referred to Ankara’s objections, saying: “We have always been strong allies and partners with Turkey. As NATO allies, we will strengthen Turkey’s security and Turkey will strengthen our own security. We take terrorism seriously. We condemn terrorism in all its forms and are committed to tackling it. We are open to discussing Turkey’s concerns. “Discussions are already underway and will continue in the coming days.”
