The approval of the Guarulhos bill that creates the pollution tax for planes operating in Cumbica will be charged to airlines, but there is an assessment in the sector that the pressure could end up reaching the consumer’s pocket.
The so-called TPA (Environmental Preservation Tax), which starts in 2023, is levied on the total weight of the aircraft measured before takeoff.
It comes at a delicate moment for the sector, which is still recovering from the impacts of the pandemic on travel and suffering the effects of the fuel surge.
For now, the analysis is that any additional cost ends up being passed on to the passenger, but it is still too early to say that the price of flights arriving and departing from Guarulhos may rise after the new rate. It will also depend on the dollar and oil.
Shortly after the bill was passed on Friday, associations representing airlines issued a critical statement about the measure.
