São Paulo receives one of the longest planes in the world; watch video

by

At 75 meters in length, the Airbus A340-600 is one of the longest commercial aircraft in the world. Despite its remarkable presence, it can be said that it is a model “in extinction”, since most of the examples produced have already been retired to make way for newer and more efficient jets. Even so, examples of the type have made some special flights to São Paulo, as Aeroin anticipated.

The aircraft that have landed in Guarulhos in recent days are operated by the Icelandic airline Air Atlanta Icelandic, which was hired to carry out charter flights to the Post Office, bringing various cargoes from China to Brazil. In total, the company has two copies of the Airbus A340-600 in its fleet, registered under the registrations TF-LFC and TF-MFC.

The SBGR Live channel, on Youtube, recorded one of the recent passages of the large aircraft, as seen in the video below.

The A340-600 was a model widely used by several companies until the Covid-19 pandemic, but it became quite uncommon after the health crisis, which led to the withdrawal of older and less efficient planes. Still, many of them have been adapted to carry loads and continue in their new craft around the world.

In terms of length, the A340-600 ranks among the largest planes in the world, as the following comparison shows.

  • Antonov AN-225 – 84 meters (destroyed in the Ukrainian War)
  • Boeing 747-8I – 76 meters long
  • Airbus A340-600 – 75 meters
  • Boeing 777-300ER – 74 meters
  • Airbus A340-1000 – 74 meters
  • Antonov AN-124 – 69 meters
