The FNP (Frente Nacional de Mayores) requested to join as amicus curiae (interested in the case) in a lawsuit in the STF (Federal Supreme Court) that asks for free public transport on election day.
“Regular access for voting users is a necessary premise to promote popular sovereignty and the maintenance of the Democratic State of Law, a non-negotiable commitment of mayors from all over the country”, says Edvaldo Nogueira Filho, mayor of Aracaju and president of the entity, in letter to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The FNP asks that the costs for the free service on the dates set for the first and second rounds be borne by resources from the Electoral Court, in amounts proportional to the number of voters.
The mayors also defend that the available fleet is similar to the working day contingent.
