Practically one in every five people benefiting from Auxílio Brasil claims to have taken out the payroll-deductible loan aimed at this public, according to a Datafolha survey.
18% declare having already made the loan in this modality. Another 19% did not, but intend to contract the line of credit. 58% did not do it and do not intend to do it, and 5% did not give an opinion.
In the survey conducted on August 30th and September 1st, 67% said they did not intend to take out the payroll loan and 27% wanted to take out the loan.
Loan contracting is higher among women who receive the aid (20%) than among men (15%) who benefit. It is around 14% in the Southeast and 20% in other regions. It reaches 26% among blacks and 13% among whites enrolled in the program. The percentage is practically the same among voters of Lula (18%) and Jair Bolsonaro (17%).
Among the people interviewed, 26% receive or live with someone who has the assistance benefit.
The survey also shows that, of the people who do not receive Auxílio Brasil, 15% are in the federal government’s CadÚnico, compared to 18% in the survey carried out at the beginning of September.
The institute heard 4,580 people in 252 municipalities between Tuesday (25) and this Thursday (27). The survey was commissioned by Sheet and by TV Globo and is registered under the code BR-04208/2022 with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). The margin of error is two percentage points.
High interest and claims
Caixa began offering the Auxílio Brasil payroll loan on October 11, a few days before the second round of elections. In three days, the bank released R$ 1.8 billion in credit to 700 thousand beneficiaries of the aid and the BPC (Benefit of Continued Provision).
After an overload generated by the explosion of accesses by Caixa Tem, the bank suspended the payroll and returned to receive loan applications on Monday (24). But the next day, he informed that the deadline for releasing the money went from two working days to five working days, making it impossible to pay new credits until the day of the vote. The change in the deadline was announced after a suggestion by the TCU (Union Court of Auditors) for the granting of new resources to be suspended.
According to the bank, it is estimated that about 200,000 people who had their contract under review or pending until last Friday (21) will have to make a new request.
The Idec (Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection) registered complaints of harassment from financial institutions and the practice of tie-in sales.
The amount paid in interest on the Auxílio Brasil payroll loan can cost up to 87% more than other types of credit with a discount on the income of public and private sector employees or INSS retirees and pensioners.
