Agribusiness once again featured prominently in the trade balance in October, leading several products. Among them rice.
Foreign sales of this cereal, considering the average daily volume of the product in husk, exceed by 702% those of the same month of 2021.
External demand and attractive prices, due to the drop in production in large producers, such as India, allowed Brazil to place 224,000 tonnes of paddy rice on the external market last month.
Exports pushed up domestic prices. The sack of paddy rice in Rio Grande do Sul ended October at R$ 80, up 4% in the month, according to data from Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics).
The increase in exports does not make the domestic market comfortable, since the country will have to import more for national supply.
Data from Conab (Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento) indicate that the country will end the 2022/23 harvest with stocks for just two months of consumption, the lowest in the last four harvests.
In the protein sector, revenues from exports of “in natura” beef, chicken and pork totaled US$ 2.1 billion, 71% more than in October 2021, according to data from Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade ) this Tuesday (1st).
Soy and corn are always highlights. Although the volume of oilseeds has fallen in exports from January to October, revenues have already reached US$ 44. billion, 22% more than in the same period last year.
Corn exports, with the largest supply of the cereal after the off-season harvest, reached 7.2 million tons last month, with daily average sales 468% higher than in October 2021.
Among imports, spending on fertilizers and pesticides continues to accelerate, due to the strong international price hike in the first half of the year.
National expenses with the purchase of fertilizers rose to US$ 22.3 billion from January to October, 96% more than in the same period last year. The volume imported this year totals 33.3 million tons, close to that of 2021.
Spending on agrochemicals increased by 97% in the year, totaling US$ 5.5 billion. In volume, reaching 559 thousand tons, the increase was 79%.
