Bolsonaro will meet with economic team about salary increases for police officers

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) announced that he will meet with the economic team, on the afternoon of Tuesday (14), to discuss salary increases for police officers.

“It’s not good to talk before things happen. But we have a meeting with the economic team. To discuss something that interests all of you,” said the president on Tuesday at an event at Planalto Palace on PRF (Federal Highway Police) actions in roads.

The discussion about the readjustments also involves the careers of federal police officers and the National Penitentiary Department.

“Some injustices happen in our lives, I admit, I don’t want to absolve myself of responsibility. We have to try to correct them. God willing, we will have a very fruitful meeting, where we can attend to all of you,” said the president.

After the event, the Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, said that the idea is to debate the restructuring of careers, which may involve salary increases.

“The entire restructuring provides for a decrease here, an increase there,” he said. He stated that Economy Minister Paulo Guedes “reacted well” to the request.

“We have to value you. We cannot just stop at the speeches and the promises”, declared Bolsonaro to the audience formed by police officers.

Torres said that the values ​​of the readjustments, fiscal impact and other details will be defined in the meeting with the economic team. “You have to make the budget forecast. For next year to present a provisional measure,” he said.

The Minister of Justice and the heads of the three police bodies of the federal government met on Monday (13) with the Minister of Economy to ask for a salary increase.

Bolsonaro (PL) wants to grant a raise to the police officers, who make up the electoral base, precisely in the year in which he intends to seek reelection.

In addition to Torres, the caravan for the readjustment also included the general directors of the Federal Police, Paulo Maiurino, the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Marques, and the Penitentiary Department, Tânia Fogaça.

Bolsonaro said that everyone is invited to the meeting with the economic team, which will be held at Planalto.

On Twitter, the Minister of Justice published, on Monday (13), a photo of the group alongside Guedes, announcing that he had delivered to the economic team the proposal for restructuring police careers.

In the Economy, however, technicians privately affirm that the categories expressed the expectation of having high salaries, but they did not come to present a proposal with numbers, which hinders the advance of negotiations at first.

Torres said on Tuesday (14) that he will present the proposals. Personnel expenses are subject to the expenditure ceiling, a rule that limits the advance of expenses to inflation.
