Panel SA: Two out of every ten LGBTQIA+ have already been attacked in means of transport

by

The Locomotiva Institute conducted a survey and found that 20% of LGBTQIA+ Brazilians (2.8 million) have already suffered aggression while commuting in their cities.

Hired by Uber, the institute found that only 7% of cases were reported by victims who used public transport – a rate that rose to 16% among those who used apps and taxis.

When the victim decides to report the violence, the most used means is the support of the application itself, according to the study.

Overall, 41% of Brazilians who identify as LGBTQIA+ (6.3 million) said they had already suffered offenses because of their sexual orientation.

To arrive at this projection, more than 1,000 LGBTQIA+ were interviewed in the five regions of the country.
