The assurance that the residents of Crete, with the construction of the North Road Axis, will move cheaper and, most importantly, safer, was given from the floor of Parliament by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, Mr. George Karantianis relevant question of Mr. Ch. Mamoulakis (SYRIZA) in the context of the parliamentary control.

“The projects are above controversy, they are the legacy of our political presence,” said the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.
Electronic tolls – Proportional charge
Mr. Karagiannis, in fact, pointed out that BOAK, as a modern highway, will have electronic tolls and proportional charging based on the use, without disturbing the financial model of the project and without burdening Greek taxpayers with large sums to pay “shadow” tolls.
“Our Ministry, by order of Minister Costas Karamanlis, has already taken care and this system provides the technical possibility of different treatment when passing through the departments that will be selected to be excluded.” As Mr. Karagiannis said, “the government has already taken the decision to consider the exemption from the obligation to pay tolls, in front of the purely urban part of Heraklion. This will be done during the 2nd Phase of the Competition, exactly after the approval of the environmental conditions of the project “.
The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure also referred to the extremely important, positive opinion of the Regional Council of Crete on the big project, Chania – Heraklion and added that “the government is moving the project forward, something that can be seen from the constant questions about BOAK”.
“There is no concession contract in the world that does not have tolls or has selective tolls, if you are from” Pano Rachoula “you pay if you are from” Kato Rachoula “you do not pay” stressed Mr. Karagiannis.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure clarified: “In any case, the tolls will be operational after the construction of the road.”
BOAK enters the final phase
Afterwards, Mr. Karagiannis referred to the course of the project, which will completely change the image of Crete and which will be delivered in 2028, noting that the road is rapidly entering its final phase, whether it is a concession, PPP or public project. .
“We are working hard at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, so that the Prime Minister of the country, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, delivers the completed work to the Cretan people for use in 2028. You have given us a pencil and we will deliver a great project!” And do not wonder if you will be invited to the inauguration as an opposition. We invite you from now on … “, said the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. George Karagiannis.
