Businessman Gabriel Andrade died at the age of 96 this Sunday (1st). Partner at Andrade Gutierrez, he was the last living founder of the company. The cause of death was not disclosed.
In a note, Andrade Gutierrez mourned the death of Gabriel who, with his brother Roberto Andrade and friend Flávio Gutierrez, founded in 1948 one of the main construction companies in the infrastructure sector in Brazil.
Among the works carried out by the group are the Rodoanel Mário Covas, Rodovia Bandeirantes, Confins Airport, the Angra 2 Power Plant, the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant, SP Metro stations, the Olympic Park for the Olympics in Rio and stadiums for the 2014 Cup.
“The company and its entire management body wishes strength to his family and remembers that Gabriel, an engineer by training, will always be a source of pride in leaving a legacy that reflects the history of development in Brazil,” he said in a press release.
According to the company, Andrade also collaborated in the development of agricultural technologies, due to his family’s historical connection with the segment, including participating in the councils and boards of several associations in the sector.
He leaves nine children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Andrade Gutierrez was one of the companies involved in Operation Lava Jato. The company signed a leniency agreement with the AGU (Attorney-General of the Union) and the CGU (Controladoria-Geral da União).
