According to the Argentine, the objective is to strengthen the trade bloc and expand ties between countries in the region. He also signaled that the creation of a single currency, like the euro, the official currency of the member countries of the European Union, is discarded.

“This does not mean that each country does not have its own currency, it means a unit for integration and increased commercial exchange throughout this regional bloc. And, as President Lula said, strengthening Mercosur, expanding Latin American union is very important. important,” he said.

With a significant participation of South American leaders, Lula’s inauguration proved to be an indication of a possible change in Brazil’s position in international geopolitics.

The list of leaders present at the ceremony also indicated a new relationship with South American neighbors. Among others, presidents Alberto Fernández (Argentina), Gabriel Boric (Chile) and Gustavo Petro (Colombia) came to Brazil for the inauguration.

According to Scioli, the main topics discussed with Haddad this Tuesday were financial and energy integration between Brazil and Argentina and the increase in commercial exchange between the two countries. Mercosur, in turn, was left out of the discussion.

“Brazil is Argentina’s number one partner and, in the context of the globalization crisis, the will is to strengthen our entire region, our complementation,” he stated.

The Argentine ambassador praised the commitment of the minister, whom he referred to as “a person who has a lot of experience.”

“Haddad is an economist who has a very productivist ambition, an ambition of the real economy, a commitment that is also very strong with the great objectives of the common currency, which will also have a positive impact”, he said.

After the meeting, Scioli had a meeting scheduled with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, to address, among other issues, the planning of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) official trip to Argentina on January 23.

Earlier, Haddad held the first official meeting with the secretaries of the portfolio at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance.
