BC reports data leak of more than 2 thousand Pix keys

by

The Central Bank reported, this Thursday (3), the leak of 2,112 Pix keys from customers of the payment institution Logbank, which took place between January 24th and 25th.

It is the second case of a Pix key leak in less than two months and the third incident since the launch of the real-time municipal resource transfer system in November 2020.

“Despite the low amount of data involved, the BC always adopts the principle of transparency in this type of occurrence,” he said in a statement.

According to the autarchy, no sensitive data, such as passwords, information on transactions or financial balances in accounts or other information under bank secrecy, were exposed.

Among the potentially exposed data are the user’s name, CPF, relationship institution and account number. The BC also reported that the ANPD (National Data Protection Agency) has been notified and affected people will be notified — without specifying the means of contact.

Another case involving the leak of Pix key data was reported by BC less than 15 days ago, on January 21. About 160,100 customers of Acesso Soluções de Pagamento had their Pix key data leaked between December 3 and 5, 2021.

At the time, affected customers were only notified through the institution’s application or internet banking. Other means, such as phone, text message or email, were ruled out.

The first such leak occurred on August 24, 2021, reaching 414,526 Pix keys linked to Banese (Banco do Estado de Sergipe).

Currently, Pix has 115.2 million registered users, including individuals and companies. In December 2021, with the payment of the second installment of the 13th salary, the number of transactions in one day with the instant payment system hit a new record, with 51.9 million transactions in 24 hours.
