From 1/1/2024, the mandatory use of the POS for the acceptance of credit and debit cards was extended to 35 categories of professions.

The Joint Ministerial Decision (JMA), which provides for the review of previous arrangements for the acceptance of card payment methods, as well as other modern payment methods, was co-signed on 12/14/23 by the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Grace Theocharis, in the context of the implementation of measures to combat tax evasion.

It is noted that today is the first day of POS implementation in the street markets as well

According to the new KYA the obligation to accept payment by card is extended (debit or credit) in an additional 35 branches (KAD) of the Greek economy.

The 35 new KAD:

  • 47.11 Retail trade in non-specialized stores selling mainly food, beverages or tobacco
  • 47.19 Other retail trade in non-specialized stores
  • 47.29 Retail trade of other foodstuffs in specialized stores
  • 47.81 Retail trade of food, beverages and tobacco, in outdoor stalls and markets
  • 47.82 Retail sale of textiles, clothing and footwear, in outdoor stalls and markets
  • 47.89 Retail trade of other goods in open-air stalls and markets
  • 47.99 Other retail trade except in shops, street stalls or markets
  • 49.32 Taxi operation
  • 64.91 Leasing
  • 65.11 Life Insurance
  • 66.12 Activities related to securities and goods contract transactions
  • 66.19 Other activities related to financial services, excluding insurance activities and pension funds
  • 66.21 Assessment of risks and damages
