A new meeting on the electrical interconnection between Greece (Crete) – Cyprus and then with Israel (the so-called Great Sea Interconnector project), was called by the president of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis mentioned today the issue of the electricity interconnection between Crete and Cyprus.

Responding to a related question from APE – BEE, he said: “What we expected did not happen. We will have the opportunity to discuss the matter on Tuesday in a meeting called by the president of the Republic of Cyprus and in which I was informed by the Cypriot Minister of Energy that he will participate”.

According to the Citizen of Cyprus, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, responding today to journalists’ questions “where does the GSI get stuck in the decision of the Council of Ministers”, replied “it doesn’t get stuck anywhere”.

“I follow with great interest the positions of some politicians, either for or against. We as a government are accountable only to the Cypriot people and as a government we will take a decision that serves the interests of the Cypriot people. We have seen in the history of this Republic what was done with large projects, with projects of great strategic importance and where they ended up. We, as a responsible government, will make a decision and we will not financially burden the state or the citizens for sure. Our decision will be based on facts and will not have any ambiguity, whether constructive or not. And it is for this reason that I asked them to come to Cyprus, to have all the facts in front of us” stated the Cypriot President.
