The total value of exports of Northern Macedonia in January – December 2024 amounted to EUR 7.78 billion, down by 6.5%
According to details of its national statistical service Northern Macedoniathe total value of exports in Northern Macedonia in January – December 2024 amounted to EUR 7.78 billion, down 6.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.
The value of imported goods in the same period amounted to EUR 11.06 billion, down 0.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.
The trade deficit in January – December 2024 amounted to 3.28 billion euros.
Imports from exports in January – December 2024 was found at 70.3%.
Trade, per product, shows that the largest share of exports in Northern Macedonia is represented by cars.
The largest share of imports are the petroleum and lubricants taken from asphalt minerals and followed by the metals of platinum and their alloys.
In January – December 2024, the first five commercial partners of Northern Macedonia were Germany, Britain, Greece, China and Serbia.
Northern Macedonia’s exports to Greece in 2024 amounted to 262 million euros, reduced by 14.5% compared to 2023, while imports from Greece amounted to 986 million euros, reduced by 5.5% compared to with 2023. Greece’s main export product to northern Macedonia are fuel.
This significant decline (6.5%) of exports in Northern Macedonia in 2024 is due to a reduction in exports of foreign plants in the country that produce accessories for the automotive industry, as a result of reducing car production in European countries and especially in Germany. In Northern Macedonia there are several foreign car components, which export mainly to automakers in Europe. These companies have a particularly favorable tax regime, and receive subsidies from the state to northern Macedonia.
Just yesterday, the Irish-American company “APTIV”, which has been operating since 2016 outside Skopje and employs about 500 employees, announced that it is closing its unit and will transfer its production from Skopje to Portugal and Poland.
The APTIV plant in Skopje manufactures electronic and electrical equipment for the needs of the automotive industry. Appiv is present in nearly 50 countries and employs a total of over 200,000 employees.
