By a wide majority, 42 votes in favor, approved by the Consumer Internal Market and Protection Committee of European Parliament the amendments of MEP and ND spokesman, Dimitris Tsiodrato deal with unjustifiably different values for same products.
Specifically, the Commission’s report on the implementation of the rules and to strengthen the EU’s single market calls on the Commission to tackle unjustified geographical supply restrictions and practices of some companies to use unnecessary linguistic restrictions on the marking of basic consumer products. It also makes a specific reference to the significant impact of these restrictions on consumers, the single market and small and medium -sized enterprises, since according to the Commission, they cost EU consumers over 14 billion euros a year.
There is also a special reference to the challenges and obstacles facing small and medium -sized enterprises (SMEs) due to the complexity of the regulatory framework, which limits their ability to innovate and develop within the single market, but also to the need to enhance their representation and participation in the decision -making process.
Following Dimitris Tsiodra’s relevant amendments, MEPs emphasize the need to identify a clear methodology for monitoring and measuring progress in achieving the bureaucracy reduction targets by at least 25% and 35% for SMEs, as noted in a statement.
Asked by the Commission’s spokesman, the MEP and spokesman for the ND Eurogroup, stressed that the adoption of this report is “a clear message to the Commission to implement the actions without delay” and asked why they are planned for the end of 2026.
Finally, in a public hearing of the same committee on prices, Mr Tsiodras emphasized that European consumers are increasingly facing practices to reduce the quantity and ingredients of the products, while their price remains unchanged or increasing.
Finally, referring to the existing legal framework, he asked the Commission’s spokesman about whether it is sufficient to combat such practices and ensure the transparency and effective information of consumers.
