Sexual violence: Oprah, Xuxa, Gaga and Madonna were also victims

by

Karla Castanho, 21, published an open letter this Saturday (25) in which she reports having been raped and also that she decided to donate the baby, the result of the violence, for adoption, following all legal procedures. It is not easy to admit to having been a victim of abuse, but celebrities like Xuxa, Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga and Madonna managed to free themselves from the trauma and reveal what they suffered.

In 2012, Xuxa said that she was sexually abused more than once between childhood and adolescence. She gave her statement to the painting “O Que Vi da Vida”, on the program Fantástico (Globo), and said that she had not told it before for fear that people would look at her “in a different way”.

“I was abused, I know what it is, we feel ashamed, we think we are guilty. I always thought that I was doing something, that it was my clothes”, said Xuxa, who continued: “It was not a person, there were some, at different times in my life. I felt bad, dirty, wrong.”

Last year, Lady Gaga spoke about the episode of sexual violence she suffered in her youth. The outburst was made in the premiere episode of the documentary “The Me You Can’t See”, created by Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV +. The program sought to bring discussions about mental health.

Gaga was raped when she was 19 and, like Klara Castanho, she became pregnant with the person who raped her. The pregnancy was terminated with an abortion. “I was already working in the business and a producer told me, ‘take off your clothes’. And I said no. I walked out and they told me they were going to burn all my songs. I froze. First I felt total pain, then I was paralyzed “, said.

“The person who raped me left me pregnant on a street corner at my parents’ house because I was throwing up and being sick. I was locked in a studio for months.” The rape and the whole context that involves it led Gaga to trigger a series of psychological disorders.

Oprah Winfrey, 67, revealed in the same documentary the sexual abuse she suffered as a child. “At 9, 10, 11 and 12, I was raped by my 19-year-old cousin. I didn’t know what rape was. I certainly didn’t even know that word.”

Crying Oprah added: “I had no idea what sex was, I had no idea where babies came from, I didn’t even know what was happening to me. And I kept that secret. And it’s just something I’ve come to terms with. That a girl isn’t safe. in a world full of men.”

Singer Madonna, 63, claimed to have been raped when she arrived in New York, in the late 1970s. The information was published in an article signed by the artist herself in the magazine “Harper’s Bazaar”, in 1995. “In the first year I was under at gunpoint. I was raped on top of a building to which I was dragged with a knife in my back,” she writes.

Madonna had already mentioned the abuse in an interview with the British magazine “New Musical Express” in 1995. “[O estupro] It was with a stranger. I was very young and didn’t know anyone. It was a very educational experience. While it was devastating, I know it made me a stronger person, a survivor.”

The subject came up when Madonna commented on her book ‘Sex’, released in 1992. It featured erotic photos of the singer and models. In one of the images, she appears dressed in a school uniform, simulating being attacked by two boys. “It was just a fantasy. I was raped and that’s not an experience I would want to glamorize,” she told the magazine.
