The Queen made UK chart history by becoming the first band to sell seven million copies of an album.
One in four UK households have their first collection “Greatest Hits”since 1981, as announced by the Official UK Chart Society.
The record, which features classic songs including ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, has been a perennial best-seller for years and recently completed its 1,000th week in the UK album chart.
Queen’s guitarist, Brian Mayaccording to the BBC, called the recent achievement “good news”.

The band’s drummer Roger Taylor noted: “The British public and their boundlessly great taste have made Greatest Hits the best-selling album in history.” “Thank you very much, it’s an honor for us!” he added.
“When it first came out in 1981, career-spanning albums like Greatest Hits were relatively rare, only the very great bands existed.” noted Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Charts.
Queen’s second album ‘Greatest Hits’ – released in October 1991, a month before singer Freddie Mercury’s death – is also the tenth best-selling album in the UK, selling four million copies.
