It is about a very old and probably a warship, according to researcher Kostas Thoktaridis

One unknown shipwreck research in the Aegean seas brought to light. According to what the researcher reported to APE – MEB Kostas Thoktaridisthe wreck was located at a depth of 110 meters west of Kythnos and the first evidence shows that there had been an explosion in its bow, while its stern had also collapsed.

“The general image and the particular shipbuilding of the wreck that does not have holds shows a very old and in all probability, a warship” says Kostas Thoktaridis who, after the underwater research, will move on to the historical in order to find evidence that will allow the his identification.

From the underwater research with an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) it emerges in the meantime how the total length of the wreck is about 40 meters.

The wreck has a low profile, only 3 meters high, while the short distance between the transverse shipbuilding lines of the frame lines that make up the ship’s frame is impressive.

The bow of the wreck faces north. At a distance of 30 meters from the stern of the wreck, debris was found widely scattered on the bottom, which gives the impression that a very powerful explosion occurred on the ship while it was on the surface. Sheets (sheet metal) from the sides and from the deck have been thrown out of the wreck. From the damages that have been caused, it is estimated that it sank too quickly.
