The Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival “Beyond the Borders”, which takes place on the beautiful island of the Dodecanese every year in the last week of August, opens on Sunday 21 August 2022 the “gates” of its 7th event. The Festival, which was instituted in 2016 by the Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (IDISME) with the aim of highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Kastellorizos as well as promoting the art of cinematography, begins this year with an inspiring ceremony which will be broadcast live streaming by APE -MPE at 19:30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18NSCbgle6Y).
“Radiograph of A Family” (IDFA Awards 2020), by the acclaimed Iranian director Firouzeh Khosrovani, is the film that opens the Cinematic Curtain of the Festival, as part of a special screening that will take place tomorrow at 20:30 (at Poseidon Hotel Square) . The film, with an experimental cinematic form and fluid audiovisual representations, deals – with the background of the Iranian Revolution in the late 1970s – with the universal core of human lives: love stories that are separated when personal paths and individual desires no longer converge.
Afterwards, the special performer Iro Saia, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the Pontian Genocide, will present a musical performance with strong tones of the East. Smyrnaic, Rebetiko and Pontic song compose a musical feast full of melodies and rhythms, reminding us that the music we have today is not only combinations of sounds and rhythms, but is mainly memories, feelings, memories and experiences of an entire people who for many centuries make the joy and pain of music, wherever it is.
Tomorrow, the photo exhibition “The land of Attica welcomes the refugees of 1922”, renewed especially for the needs of the Festival, also opens in the Hall of Cultural Events of the Municipality of Megistis. The exhibition, an organization of the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarianism and Democracy, was presented in 2006 in Athens and has since been transferred to many cities in Greece and abroad. This year, as part of the activities for the centenary of the Asia Minor Disaster, it is presented in a concise and renewed version in Kastellorizo, in the context of “Beyond the Borders”.
It is recalled that APE-MPE, as part of its collaboration with the 7th Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival, will screen five of the documentaries awarded during the 6th edition of the festival, in August 2021. This is the first public screening of the awarded documentaries, which will take place from the special micro site created by APE-MPE in collaboration with the 7th Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival “Beyond Borders”, at www.amna.gr/beyondbordersfestival2022
