Faros: The ancient port of Sifnos with the wonderful Aegean colors

by

The fine golden sand, the shade from the tamarisk trees and the few sunbeds of the peaceful beaches of Faros, combined with the most intense blue color of the open sea of the Aegean, look like a painting.

It is located in the south of Sifnos and in the past, until 1883, it was its central port, before it was transferred to Kamares.

It is a wonderful closed bay called Pharos, which owes its name to the ancient lighthouse installation that existed on the beach for navigation and which nowadays is located in the S.E. of the entrance to the bay, next to the monastery of Stavros.

Always based on the preferences of the visitors, Faros is one of their most beloved destinations, as its three consecutive sandy beaches are undisturbed during most of the summer, while at the same time as the endless dives in its wonderful crystal waters, the guests have the option to pair their coffee or food right where the wave breaks.

Faros beach is centrally located. To its left, one finds the beach of Fasolou, which ends at the monastery of Stavros, and to its right, the beach of Glyfos, from where the paved path to Chrysopigi begins.

The fine golden sand, the shade of the tamarind trees and the few sunbeds of the peaceful beaches of Faros, combined with the most intense blue color of the open Aegean sea, look like a painting, while the view of the white monastery of the holy rock is simply magical.

It is worth noting that in the past the place was a lively settlement of potters with many potteries in the area, which nowadays unfortunately no longer exist.
