New York University’s Clive Davis Institute has added a course on Lana Del Rey to its program this fall.

The course “Issues in Recorded Music: Lana Del Rey” is taught by journalist and author Kathy Aidoli, and according to a University spokesperson, it will examine the singer-songwriter’s contribution to the 21st century pop scene, her relationship with feminism, her musical influences and the artists she has influenced.

Another aspect that will be explored is Lana Del Rey’s connection to the social justice movements, #BlackLivesMatter, #MeToo and #TimesUp.

Lana Del Rey was honored with the Decade Award at Variety’s Hit Makers event in December.

“With eight critically acclaimed albums, the six-time Grammy-nominated artist established a wistful, melancholic and baroque version of dream pop that in turn helped change and reinvent her sound (and mood) of popular music after the 2010s,” the course description states.

The Clive Davis Institute is chaired by Canadian-American veteran composer, musician and journalist Jason King.
