Making his directorial debut, Johnny Massaro was sweating profusely on the red carpet of the Rio Festival at Cine Odeon, downtown. In addition to the stuffy atmosphere on Thursday night (6), he was tense for the premiere of his first feature, “A Cozinha”. While using his shirt sleeve to wipe the sweat from his face, the actor showed a tattoo on his wrist that read: CALM.
“That’s what I’m trying to feel right now, but it’s difficult”, assumed Massaro, not only for his production, but also for the second round of the presidential elections, in just over three weeks. “I can’t be frivolous in saying that there are no components of despair and anguish for everything we’re living. But it’s part of the artist to maintain a posture of courage and hope. This is all about keeping calm”, Johnny explained.
The actor also spoke about the polarization between the two candidates, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the presidential elections. “I think that this feeling of fans, of rivalry, leads nowhere. There is no such thing as who wins or who loses. We have to think collectively about how we can all win and evolve”, he observed.
He also explained that “A Cozinha” is the first artistic project of a group of actors, who research on proposed dramaturgy for spaces (or rooms) that already exist. ‘”A Cozinha” is entirely produced by me and Felipe Haiut. We really want ‘A Garagem’ to be our second moment,” added Massaro.
